Is there some sample code for how you recommend customizing forms to contain lookup combo boxes. Commonly a new record will have parent lookups and it would be nice to have a guidance on the best approach reusing as much code as possible.

TierDeveloper uses an XML layout descriptor file for generating web application as well as WinForms application. You can use this file to customize the layout of your application. TierDeveloper will create one for you the first time you generate the application. The layout file is named as <ProjectName>.xml for web application and <Project Name>Win.xml for WinForms application.

Suppose if you want to include a combo box in the generated web application. Here are some easy ways through which you can do so.

1 - Through database: In xml provide the following for the field for which drop down is required.

<Field name='state' label='state' width='300' dataSize='20' rows='1' hidden='false' datatype='String' required='-1' isPrimaryKey='0' control='List'>

<DBLookUp dataobject='Customers' method='LoadAllStates' value='state' display='state' />

</Field>

2 - Through static values: In xml provide the following for the field for which drop down is required.

<Field name='state' label='state' width='300' dataSize='20' rows='1' hidden='false' datatype='String' required='-1' isPrimaryKey='0' control='List'>

<LookUp>

<Option value='CA' display='CA'/>

<Option value='AB' display='CD'/>

<Option value='DC' display='DC'/>

</LookUp>

</Field>

For details on how to modify this file you should read the sample HTML files installed with the TierDeveloper setup. You can find them under folder "samples".
