Unable to Connect to Server Node (Windows XP/ Windows 7 Machine)

This error can occur when remote monitoring is not enabled on the server nodes that are running the Windows XP operating system.

Workaround

Use the following steps to enable remote monitoring:

  • Open Windows Explorer on the target Windows XP computer.
  • Choose 'Tools' -> 'Folder Options'.
  • Click the 'View' tab.
  • Clear the 'Use Simple File Sharing' check box, and click 'OK'.
  • Verify privileges on the target Windows XP computer as described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article# Q300702.

  • If the systemroot is on an NTFS partition, you must have at least READ access to the following two files:

  • %SystemRoot%/System32/Perfc009.dat
  • %SystemRoot%/System32/Perfh009.dat
  • You must have at least READ access to the following registry keys on the remote computer:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/SecurePipeServers/winreg
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows NT/CurrentVersion/Perflib

  • Reboot  Windows XP computer.

A user that has administrator rights for the remote computer can also view remote counters.

In windows 7 if you are still unable to view counters of a remote server then enable "File, Folder and network sharing" options.

Follow steps given below

  • Go to Control panel, select "Network and Sharing center"
  • Click "Change Advanced Sharing Settings"
  • Under the Network discovery option select "Turn on network discovery"
  • Under the File and printer sharing option select "Turn on file and printer sharing"
  • Under the Public folder sharing option select "Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can read and write files in Public folders"
  • Then click Save changes, as shown in figure below.
