Creating Archiver Profile

 
To add an Archiver Storage Profile, follow the steps given below:
 
  • Click on the Application Management tab on Central Administration page.
  • Click on Storage Optimization under StorageEdge Management.
  • Click on Archiver Profiles under Storage Optimization.
  • In the top left side of the page, you will see "Add a Storage Profile", click on it.
 
 
 
Defining Storage Profile Scope:
 
  On the profile page, select a profile scope. It can either be a Web Application or a Content Database.
 
  • If you want to configure an Archiver for a web application, select "Web  Application" as shown below.
     
     
  • Select an already created web application from drop down list.
     
     
  • If you want to configure an Archiver for a content database, select "Content Database" as shown below.
     
     
  • Select an already created content database from drop down list.
     
 
Creating Storage Pool:
 
Select an already created Storage Pool from drop down list. You can also create a new storage pool using "Create New Storage Pool" option.
 
 
 
Compression:
 
Optionally enable Compression by checking the Enable checkbox.
 
 
Encryption:
 
Optionally select an Encryption Provider – AES 128, 3DES 128, 3DES 192, DES 64, RC2 128 or AES 256 for enabling encryption on a Storage Profile.
 
 
Scope Filtering:
 
Scope Filtering allow users to narrow down the scope of content archiving. By default, content of all sites will be archived but user can also select specific sites or lists for archiving by expending the tree.
 
 
 
Enable Filter Policy:
 
Filter Policies are provided to define the filtering criteria for the BLOBs that should be archived. By default filtering is not enabled and all BLOBs will be archived. Using "Add New Filter Policy" user can add the following filters for the BLOBs, i.e.:
 
  • Size Filter; Here users are suppose to specify the "Size" in KBytes and the rule i.e. "Greater Than" or "Smaller Than" for the BLOBs that should be archived.
  • Name Filter; Using this filter the BLOBs should be filtered on File name. Here you need to provide the name of the file which is to be included/excluded from archiving.
  • Author Filter; Author Filter allows you to either include or exclude the files of the selected authors for archiving.
  • Last Modified By Filter; Last Modified By Filter allows you to either include or exclude the files of the selected authors who modify the files for archiving.
  • Creation Date Filter; Select the "Creation Date" of the BLOBs that need to be include/exclude for archiving.
  • Last Modification Date Filter; Filter the BLOBs by "Last Modification Date" for archiving.
  • Metadata Filter; BLOBs can also be filtered on the basis of file Metadata. Enter "Key" and "Values" for the BLOBs to be included/excluded for archiving. You can provide multiple values against a single key separated by comma.
 
Note: Metadata Filter can be added more then once.
 
 
Specify BLOB Retention Policy:
 
Specify the retention policy for BLOBs to be kept in an archiver using this section. After the expiration of retention policy, the BLOBs will be deleted from archiver and cannot be retrieved again. If no policy is defined the BLOBs will remain in the archiver forever.
 
  • "Never delete archived BLOBs" will keep all the BLOBs in an archiver.
  • "Delete after N days" will keep the BLOBs in an archiver for maximum N number of days and than delete it from archiver.
  • User can also keep the BLOBs in an archiver after N number of days if the BLOB exist in SharePoint. Using "Do not delete, if document exist in SharePoint" option.
  • You can apply both or any one of the retention policy on a BLOBs.
  • Select the Server (from drop down list) on which you want to run the job.
  • Specify the time and date on which you want to run the job.
  • "Enable job throttling" option will apply the already configured throttling settings for this job. User can also configure throttling for this job using Edit Settings tab, where you can configure speed for this job.
 
 
 
Configuring Archiving Job:
  
"Archive Existing BLOB Content" job is a recurring job that can be scheduled to copy the BLOBs and their metadata from SharePoint database and Externalizer to Archiver profile.
 
  • To schedule this job, users are supposed to enable the job and specify the server and time for the job to run.
  • "Enable job throttling" option will apply the already configured throttling settings for this job. User can also configure throttling for this job using Edit Settings tab, where you can configure speed for this job.
