Cloud Licensing Model
NCache Cloud Service provides licensing based on two major factors:
- The RAM used by the cloud VM
- The logical processors of the cloud VM
License Plans
NCache provides you with two major licensing plans. Both of these plans come packed with a specific set of NCache licenses and have some boundaries set to those licenses. These plans are:
Client-Server Licenses
The Client-Server plan includes licenses for both server and client machines. Minimum number of licenses that a server machine consumes is 2. This license consumption for a server machine increases with increase in the number of logical processors it consumes. A client machine, however, consumes fixed 2 licenses.
You reserve the exact number of licenses you want when you complete NCache subscription process on NCache Cloud Portal. See Purchase NCache Cloud Subscription to see how you can reserve Client and Server licenses.
Server Only Licenses
The Server-only plan covers licenses cost for server machines. This plan is based on the consumption of logical processors and RAM of every machine. You can connect unlimited clients to a machine that has NCache activated with a Server only license. You can reserve Server only licenses at the time of subscription purchase. See Purchase NCache Cloud Subscription to find the steps required to reserve server only licenses.
These licensing plans can use either hourly or reserved licensing models. They are explained below:
Types of Cloud Licensing Models
NCache Cloud Service provides two kinds of licensing models:
Hourly Machine Licensing
For all licenses that come with the Pay as You Go plan and the ones that are used on top of the reserved licenses in the Annual plan, Hourly Machine Licensing is followed. It goes like this:
An hourly machine sends heartbeat to the NCache cloud server twice a day. If the machine fails to send heartbeat for 30 days, NCache license on that machine will expire.
If Heartbeat of a machine is not received for three consecutive days, NCache cloud server will send an email to you informing that the machine's Heartbeat is not being received and if this continues, then the machine's licenses will expire after 30 days.
If Heartbeat fails to report for 3 consecutive days, a warning is logged in the Windows event logs daily.
Reserved Machine Licensing
In case of Annual Plan, you are asked to buy Server, Server-Only, and Client licenses. All these licenses are categorized as reserved licenses.
All licenses that you purchase at the time of configuring subscription in NCache Cloud Portal will be considered as reserved and will be charged annually (once a year).
In case you want to buy more reserved licenses, you can do so from the NCache Cloud Portal, the steps of which are explained in the Modify Existing Subscription section. The licenses you buy here will be added to your subscription plan and will be charged from the time you buy them till the end of your subscription.
If you no longer have access to your machine that is consuming licenses and you cannot deactivate it yourself, then please contact Alachisoft Support team at support@alachisoft.com to free your licenses.
