Unable to Connect Server Node in Windows 7/XP

This error can occur when remote monitoring is not enabled on the server nodes that are running the Windows XP operating system.

Use the following steps to enable remote monitoring:

WINDOWS XP

  • Open Windows Explorer on the target Windows XP computer.

  • Select Tools -> Folder Options.

  • Click the View tab.

  • Clear the Use Simple File Sharing check box, and click OK.

  • Verify privileges on the target Windows XP computer.

  • If the systemroot is on an NTFS partition, you must have at least READ access to the following two files:

    • %SystemRoot%/System32/Perfc009.dat
    • %SystemRoot%/System32/Perfh009.dat
  • You must have at least READ access to the following registry keys on the remote computer:

    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/SecurePipeServers/winreg
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows NT/CurrentVersion/Perflib
  • Reboot your Windows XP machine.

Note

A user that has administrator rights for the remote computer can also view remote counters.

WINDOWS 7

In windows 7 if you are still unable to view counters of a remote server, then enable File, Folder and network sharing options.

  • Go to Control Panel, select Network and Sharing center

  • Click Change Advanced Sharing Settings

  • Under the Network discovery option select Turn on network discovery

  • Under the File and printer sharing option select Turn on file and printer sharing

  • Under the Public folder sharing option select Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can read and write files in Public folders

  • Click Save changes.
