Apply Private Patches

NCache Private Patching uses a strictly orchestrated Rolling Upgrade methodology to ensure continuous data availability when addressing specificfixes. By applying updates node-by-node, the NCache administrators can ensure zero downtime for client applications. This process triggers automated State Transfers, allowing the distributed cluster to re-balance data to healthy nodes before a server is taken offline for patching, thereby preserving data integrity and high availability throughout this maintenance window.

Note

You should always do a maintenance, patching, or upgrading activity one node at a time.

Steps To Apply NCache Private Patches

To apply an NCache patch, simply follow the steps provided by Alachisoft Support Team. They will share the necessary instructions and files for applying the patch to your existing NCache installation.

The required steps to apply NCache private patches are as follows:

1. Stop Cache

Stop the cache on a particular server node, if this node is a part of multiple cache clusters. You need to stop this node from all the cache clusters. This will start the state transfer process and data will be re-adjusted on the other nodes available in the cluster.

2. Stop NCache Service

Stop NCache Service on this server and also change the service startup type from Automatic to Manual, so that you can manually start NCache Service after reboot.

3. Apply Patch

Apply required NCache patches/updates. Complete all the maintenance tasks running on this machine and then reboot the servers.

4. Restart NCache Service

After successful completion of step 3, now restart NCache Service and also change service start-up type back to Automatic for normal usage.

5. Start Cache

Now start the cache manually on a particular server node from the NCache Management Center, if auto-start is not enabled. [You can skip this step if auto-start is already enabled].

Refresh cache cluster from NCache Management Center to view this node as active node in the cluster. Furthermore, you can see data being transferred to this lately added cache node by monitoring the cache.

Perform the same steps for other nodes in your environment. It is a good practice to start NCache Service manually once all the patches are fully applied and maintenance work has been completed on your server.
